American Flag Rice Krispie Treats

June 17, 2026 by zakariasidki111@gmail.com

As the sun sets on a clear Independence Day evening, the vibrant colors of red, white, and blue are beautifully showcased in a spectacular dessert. These American Flag Rice Krispie Treats are not only visually stunning, but they also come together quickly in about 30 minutes. The combination of candy melts perfectly contrasts with the classic texture of the rice krispie treats, giving them that extra festive flair.

This recipe is ideal for anyone looking to celebrate a patriotic occasion or simply wanting to impress family and friends. Perfect for parties, barbecues, or as a fun treat for kids, these treats can be made ahead of time and stored for freshness in an airtight container.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • The colorful layers create a striking visual appeal that’s perfect for celebrations.
  • They feature a delightful crunch complemented by a sweet candy coating.
  • The process is quick and requires minimal cooking skills.
  • Kids will love getting involved, making it a fun family activity.

What You’ll Need

Gather these ingredients to create your festive treats.

For Decorating

  • 2 oz white candy melts
  • 5 oz red candy melts
  • 5 oz blue candy melts
  • Red, white and blue sprinkles

For the Base

  • 4 paper straws (cut in half)
  • 8 pre-packaged rice krispie treats (unwrapped)

Tip: Pre-packaged rice krispie treats save time.

Substitutions & Swaps

  • Substitute store-bought rice krispie treats with homemade versions.
  • Swap sprinkles for edible glitter for a different effect.
  • Use a different color scheme for events other than Independence Day.

How to Make It

Make these treats in just a few easy steps.

Melt white candy

Melt the white candy melts in the microwave according to the package instructions.

Dip straws

Dip each paper straw into the melted candy and then stick it into the smaller end of each rice krispie treat, on the side. Set the treats on parchment paper to dry. Set white candy aside.

Melt red candy

Melt the red candy melts in the microwave according to the package instructions.

Coat with red candy

Holding onto the straw, dip each rice krispie treat into the melted candy, coating half of the treat with the red candy. Tap the straw on the side of the bowl to remove the excess. Place the treats on parchment paper to dry.

Melt blue candy

Melt the blue candy melts in the microwave according to the package instructions.

Coat with blue candy

Holding onto the straw, dip each rice krispie treat into the melted candy, coating half of the treat with the blue candy. Tap the straw on the side of the bowl to remove the excess. Immediately sprinkle red, white, and blue sprinkles onto the candy, before it dries. Place the treats on parchment paper to dry.

Drizzle with white candy

Re-warm the white candy melts in the microwave so they are melted again. Add the melted candy to a ziplock bag, trim off one corner, and drizzle the melted white candy over the red candy-colored treats. Place the treats on parchment paper to dry.

How to Store It

Fridge: Store in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
Freezer: No, they lose texture and appearance.
Reheat: N/A.

Tips for Best Results

  • Allow the melted candy to cool slightly before dipping to prevent dripping.
  • Use high-quality candy melts for the best flavor and smooth finish.
  • Make sure to work quickly when applying sprinkles to ensure they stick.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve these treats at a Fourth of July picnic or barbecue.
  • Pair with lemonade or fruit punch for a refreshing drink option.
  • Add them to a dessert platter for parties to impress guests.
